The Foxton Centre

From its origins as a youth centre in Avenham in 1969, the Foxton Centre is a proud Preston charity and a strong community anchor …

From our local community bases we work with many people on the margins of city life – rough sleepers, street sex workers, young people in the Avenham / Frenchwood areas- who often face problems with poverty, addiction, and mental health issues. Our charity has grown rapidly in recent years and now operates from a number of bases in the city to better serve the people we work with.

Foxton Homeless Day Centre (Fox Street)
Our Homeless Day Centre open five days each week with a session each morning for rough sleepers and a more structured programme in the afternoons. From the day centre we offer our outreach work we identify rough sleepers offering support, safety and resources. We opened in Dec 2022 and In our first month we worked with 145 different individuals.

Foxton Emergency Housing Project

In July 2022 we opened our purpose developed emergency housing project for rough sleepers in the city. From this building we provide 14 en-suite rooms for rough sleepers to get off the streets and begin to address the issues they have. Since it opened the emergency housing project has had a 97% occupancy rate demonstrating the need for this service in the city.

Foxton’s Move On Accommodation

Foxton Housing First accommodation scheme, offers housing to former rough sleepers . We own one house outright with money raised by our supporters from our Big Sleep Out (thank you!) which has been converted to two studio flats.

As part of the governments Rough Sleepers Initiative and with our partners at Community Gateway Association we are able to offer up to 40 move on flats for rough sleepers. With Calico we have four two bedroomed properties for rough sleepers and a also work closely with Onward Housing association and have a number of properties for the homeless with them.

This means that we offer over 100 places each night for rough sleepers in the city

work experience and volunteering programmes all provide practical solutions to help people to move beyond their limitations; to learn, grow and flourish.

Foxton Womens Services
With our Streetlink project we assist street sex workers – many of whom experience the same issues of homelessness, addiction, poverty and mental health – to tackle street violence, ensure sexual health and provide safe solutions to move forward in their lives. We have a special housing service for up to nine vulnerable women.

We are close to re-opening our New Hall Lane base for this work following an £80,000 major refurbishment scheme. Watch out for the opening in April 2023.

Foxton Youth and Community Centre (Knowsley Street)

Our original centre which opened in 1969 still operates and since December 2022 has begun to offer a wider programme to the local community as we moved our homeless services to Fox St.

We offer youth clubs, ATR and Fox Kidz, five days a week  These are attended by young people from the area meet regularly and the young people, supported by volunteers, have a crowd funded activity to regenerate a former local park space in Avenham as a community resource and safe space for young people and families. The project also creates a sense of ownership for those involved.

The youth work team offer a full programme of activities during the school holidays.

We also do fun things like a panto at Christmas and other special events.

We have an expanding range of community activities hosting groups for young mums, the Ukranian and Romanian communities in the city as well as a warm hub on Tuesdays and an art group with The Harris on Fridays. On Saturdays there is a thriving yoga group followed by a food session.
